 Dear UUCB Members and Friends,

What an exciting time it is at UUCB!  We have just had reason to celebrate, as our minister, Reverend Lone Broussard, has officially been here for an entire year - we have had one whole year of benefitting from her guidance and wisdom.  In my year of working with her, I have been deeply impressed by her insight, but more importantly, I've been impressed by her commitment to this church.  I have no doubt that we have much good work to do with Rev. Broussard.

In addition to Rev. Broussard's leadership and commitment, it has been a privilege to work beside the many leaders this church has helped to cultivate-on the Board, in committees, and throughout the congregation itself.  We truly have an embarrassment of riches at UUCB, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as your president this year.  I am awed by the creativity and energy so many of you commit daily to our church.

As we begin our new church year, I hope that we will continue to cultivate leadership and a broad sense of commitment within our church community, as well as in the Greater Birmingham area.  Perhaps, our most exciting upcoming event-one when we will be able to further polish our visions both for UUCB and for our whole community - is the Searching for the Future (SFTF) weekend September 30th, October 2nd.  During this weekend, Saturday,October 1st will be devoted to our charge of re-creating our shared Vision and Mission Statements for our church.  Who are we?  And what do we hope to become?  Surely, many of you have asked yourselves and each other those very questions as they relate to UUCB.  During the SFTF weekend, we-as a whole congregation-will develop formal answers to those questions that we have so often asked ourselves and each other.  These answers will form the basis of UUCB's strategic planning for years to come.

These are, indeed, exciting times in our church, and I am thankful that we have the opportunity share these experiences.  I'm looking forward to working with you all.

Sincerely,

Anthony Hamley,

UUCB President
