Julie Shum, Director of Religious Education
Julie has been a member of UUCB since 2012, a facilitator of membership classes, organizer of the UU folksingers group, and SEEC teacher and co-chair. Julie Shum has been a music teacher for over twenty years, directing choirs, orchestras, small ensembles, and teaching private voice, piano, flute, mandolin, and guitar. Her work in conservatories, schools, summer camps and in outreach to special needs children has taught her to work with a diverse and constantly changing environment. She has experience with all age groups of children in planning and application of curriculum. She is a representing member from the non-profit music program, Scrollworks, to GBMEA, the Greater Birmingham Music Educators Alliance, assisting in the organization of an annual festival concert at Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center and supporting the greater music community through events, performances, and outreach programs.
