Kim Shoemaker, Office Administrator

Kim Shoemaker, a Birmingham native, brings a wealth of both professional and personal experience to her position as UUCB's Office Administrator.

Professionally, she has spent 32 years in the workforce, with extensive customer service, management, and printing experience. Just before coming to the church, she was owner of her own dog grooming business. She can still be found grooming some of her favorites part-time as a hobby and a passion!

Personally, her journey has taken her from the neighborhoods of Woodlawn, East Thomas, and Ensley to multiple public and private schools, as well as Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Catholic churches. She considers this, along with the fact that she has been openly gay since age 15, wonderful training in tolerance and diversity. She is proud to have attended the 1993 and 2000 Gay Rights marches in Washington, DC, and is planning to attend the one coming up in October 2009.

Reflecting on her journey, Kim notes that she came to the UU Church of Birmingham during a period of rebirth – both for the church and for herself. The inner resources she has cultivated through living a life filled with change have prepared her well to be an asset to the church during this time.

Kim believes that the best investments in life are relationships with people, that everyone has their own unique gifts to offer, and that it's important to acknowledge we need one another more often. She currently resides in Helena with her cat “Texaco” and enjoys living close to her family.
